Oct 17, 2010 · We just poured a 5000 square foot concrete slab - 4000 psi. All is flat and level, but the masons ran thr trowel machines too long, and gave a smooth finish. This is an exterior slab, and in the wet and winter conditions it will be very slippery with no broom or traction finish.

Dec 03, 2010 · The guy that did the concrete in my garage about 30 years ago made it almost shiny. Any snow on the feet makes it extremely slippery. Is there any durable finish I can put on it to rough it up a bit? Or maybe give it a brushing with muratic acid to remove a bit of the surface layer?

It has a rough-ish finished top surface which is not idea for cleaning up after water or soap spills. (The rough texture is meant to increase adherence of the base and grout of the tile that usually goes on it...but that same rough texture doesnt provide any better adhesion to the smooth concrete below it.).

Fill the damaged areas with epoxy resin to the surface level of the surrounding concrete floor. Use a putty knife to fill the crack or hole in the concrete, and then level the top of the resin with the floor using the knife. Allow the patch to dry overnight. Check the plane of the floor using a leveling bar.
Many (but not all) of the Tool Rental Departments have a buffing machine with a hexpin surface prep system. This tool has carbide tips on a pad that is commonly used to remove glue from concrete floors. It will do an excellent job removing concrete floor paint as well!
